The biggest story in basketball right now: the Philadelphia 76ers just pulled off one of the rarest comebacks in NBA history. Down 3 games to 1 against the Boston Celtics, the 76ers won three straight — including a thrilling Game 7 — to advance to the second round. Only 14 teams in NBA history have ever done that. Joel Embiid led the charge. Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons erased a 24-point deficit to beat the Orlando Magic 93–79 and force their own Game 7, while the Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers are also headed to a Game 7. A long shot story out of Chicago: White Sox rookie Munetaka Murakami (a Japanese import making his MLB debut this season) leads the entire major leagues with 13 home runs already, and he backed it up Friday with another blast in an 8–2 win over the Padres. In weird baseball news, the Cincinnati Reds walked seven straight Pittsburgh Pirates batters in one inning — tying an MLB record — allowing four runs without a single ball even being put in play. And the New York Mets are off to a rough 10–21 start (that's bad), but management says manager Carlos Mendoza isn't getting fired.

Big news for a long-suffering fanbase: the Buffalo Sabres — a team that hadn't won a playoff series since 2007 — knocked out the Boston Bruins with a 4–1 win in Game 6. That's 18 years of playoff futility finally snapped. Buffalo fans have been waiting a very long time for this.

The Big Ten conference (a group of 18 major universities) announced it's distributing a record $1.37 billion to its member schools for the 2025 fiscal year — about $76 million per school, which actually edges out the rival SEC. College sports is big, big business. Also, Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby hired a high-profile attorney to fight an NCAA investigation into gambling activity — the same lawyer who won a landmark case last year forcing the NCAA to share revenue with athletes.

Kentucky Derby 🐎 — The race was today, and it was a stunner. Golden Tempo, a 23-1 long shot (meaning almost nobody expected the horse to win), charged from dead last to edge out Renegade at the finish line. The trainer, Cherie DeVaux, made history as the first woman ever to train a Kentucky Derby winner. The purse was $5 million.

Boxing — David Benavidez knocked out Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez to win the cruiserweight title, cementing his reputation as one of the most relentless punchers in the sport right now.

Soccer — Arsenal extended their lead in England's Premier League to six points over Manchester City with a comfortable win over Fulham, thanks to a big performance from star winger Bukayo Saka. They're looking like favorites for the title. In a fairy tale gone slightly sideways, Wrexham — the Welsh club famously bought by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney — had their hopes of a fourth straight promotion to the Premier League dashed this weekend.
