Minnesota Teams

Quiet day on the Minnesota sports front. The Twins are in the middle of their season but didn't make headlines in Thursday's news cycle. The Timberwolves' season is over — they're not involved in the NBA Finals (that's the Knicks vs. Spurs). The Wild and Vikings are in their offseasons, with the Vikings not making any major splashes in recent minicamp reports. No Lynx, United, or Gophers news to pass along today either. NFL

Patrick Mahomes is now the NFL's first half-billion dollar player. The Chiefs reworked his contract, and he'll make a league-best $64 million per year through 2033. In other words, the best quarterback in football isn't going anywhere for a very long time.

The Seattle Seahawks got their Super Bowl LX rings at a private ceremony Thursday night. The rings feature diamonds, sapphires, and a tribute to the team's fans and city history.

In other news: Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles publicly backed Baker Mayfield as the team's long-term quarterback, even though contract extension talks are moving slowly. Meanwhile, all 32 teams are going through offseason minicamps — it's basically practice season, nothing game-changing yet.

NBA

The Knicks are one win away from their first championship since 1973. New York beat the Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals in dramatic fashion — OG Anunoby made a game-saving chase-down block, then tipped in the game-winner in the final 4.5 seconds. It's already being called one of the greatest plays in Knicks history. The Spurs, meanwhile, blew a late lead in what's being called the biggest single-game collapse in NBA Finals history. The series stands at Knicks 3, Spurs 1. Game 5 is Saturday in New York — the Knicks could clinch the title on their home floor.

MLB

Shohei Ohtani left Thursday's game early with knee inflammation, but the Dodgers say it's precautionary and nothing serious. He's been having another incredible season, so any early exit raises eyebrows, but it sounds like he'll be fine.

Ronald Acuña Jr. is heading to the injured list with a hamstring strain. The good news for Atlanta fans: the Braves have built a massive lead in the NL East — nine games up with the best record in baseball — so they can afford to let him heal.

Giants rookie Bryce Eldridge hit a walk-off grand slam that broke a record held by Roberto Clemente and capped off a comeback MLB hasn't seen in 17 years. That's the kind of highlight-reel moment that makes baseball fun.

The Texas Attorney General's Office has warned of $200 million in antitrust exposure if the conference takes action against Texas Tech, and school officials released a 20-minute video defending their integrity. Despite all the drama, Texas Tech is still considered the team to beat in the Big 12 this upcoming season.

In SEC betting odds: LSU is getting attention as a good value pick to win the conference title in Lane Kiffin's first year as head coach there.

Other Sports
