Minnesota Teams

Here’s a quick check-in on your local squads:

• Twins: The MLB season is rolling along, and the Twins are battling in the American League Central. Keep an eye on their division rival, the Milwaukee Brewers, who just threw a historically dominant game (more on that below).
• Timberwolves: The NBA Finals are wrapping up, which means the Wolves' offseason is officially underway as they gear up for the 2026 NBA Draft next week.
• Wild: The Stanley Cup Final is nearing its end, so the Wild are watching from home and preparing for the NHL offseason.
• Vikings: The team is currently going through their summer minicamps to get ready for the upcoming football season.
• Lynx: The WNBA season is in full swing, with teams across the league putting up massive numbers right now.
• Gophers/United: Both are currently in their respective offseasons as we transition into the summer sports calendar.

NFL

• The Seattle Seahawks received their Super Bowl LX rings at a private ceremony Thursday night. The flashy jewelry features diamonds, sapphires, and special nods to the team's fans and city history.
• Former Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs is officially a free agent. The NFL closed its personal conduct investigation into him (finding insufficient evidence for a suspension), meaning he's completely cleared to sign with a new team like the Commanders or Ravens.
• It's NFL minicamp season! Right now, teams are just holding low-stakes summer practices to install plays and get a look at their rosters before the real action starts this fall.

NBA

• The biggest story in sports: The New York Knicks are just one win away from their first NBA Championship since 1973! They pulled off an incredible 29-point comeback in Game 4 against the San Antonio Spurs, capped off by a wild tip-in shot.
• The Knicks have a chance to close out the series and win the title in Game 5 on Saturday. However, the Spurs' massive 7'4" superstar, Victor Wembanyama, is standing in their way.
• In off-court fun: Actor and die-hard Knicks fan Ben Stiller has been documenting the team's playoff run by posting behind-the-scenes videos from the arena.
• WNBA quick hit: Indiana Fever teammates Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark just made history. They became the first duo in WNBA history to both record a "30-point double-double" (scoring 30+ points and getting 10+ rebounds/assists) in the exact same game.

MLB

• Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani gave everyone a scare when he exited Thursday's game early with knee inflammation. Fortunately, the team says it was just a precautionary move to keep him healthy.
• The Milwaukee Brewers' ace pitcher, Jacob Misiorowski, threw baseball's first-ever "15-strikeout Maddux" — which is a fun bit of jargon meaning he threw a complete game shutout (0 runs allowed) in under 100 pitches while striking out 15 batters.
• The Washington Nationals are one of baseball's best surprises this year. They are currently winning more than they lose, which is great for fans, but it forces the front office to decide if they want to trade away star players for future prospects or keep them to make a playoff push.

NHL

• The Carolina Hurricanes have pushed the Vegas Golden Knights to the absolute brink of elimination in the Stanley Cup Final. Carolina has retaken the momentum, and Vegas is suddenly dealing with inconsistent goaltending.
• Even though his team is backed into a corner, Vegas coach John Tortorella is talking a big game. He confidently vowed that the series will stretch all the way to a decisive, winner-take-all Game 7 in Carolina.
• Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov won the NHL's MVP award (the Hart Trophy), beating out fellow superstars Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon.

College Sports

• The Texas Tech football program and the Big 12 conference are in a massive legal fight over the eligibility of their quarterback, Brendan Sorsby. It's gotten so intense that the Texas Attorney General threatened the Big 12 with a $200 million lawsuit if they try to punish Texas Tech over it.
• In College Baseball, the Men's College World Series is heating up. A smaller school named Troy is making a Cinderella run thanks to a player named Jabe Boroff, who got the nickname "Jabe Ruth" for hitting clutch home runs to get his team to the final four.

Other Sports

• Soccer: The 2026 FIFA World Cup has officially kicked off! Eleven massive NFL stadiums across North America have been temporarily transformed into soccer fields to host the games. Today marks the highly anticipated opening match for the U.S. Men's National Team (USMNT).
• MMA: The UFC is putting on a massive event on Sunday night called "Freedom 250," which will actually be held right on the White House lawn in Washington, D.C. The headline fight features top fighters Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje.
