It’s a relatively quiet week for our local squads, but the Minnesota Twins are surely keeping a close eye on the looming MLB trade deadline (more on that below) to see how they can bolster their roster for a playoff push. The WNBA season is in full swing as the Minnesota Lynx battle through the middle of their summer schedule. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves are laying low and managed to stay out of the way of a chaotic, six-team NBA trade that just went down.

NFL

Training camps are right around the corner, but San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. He's refusing to play for the 49ers and hasn't filed his paperwork to rejoin the team, a standoff that could ironically end his NFL career entirely. Over in Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers and quarterback Baker Mayfield are running out of time to agree on a new contract before a self-imposed deadline hits.

A blockbuster trade sending superstar Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors is currently on hold while the NBA investigates the Los Angeles Clippers for potentially breaking salary cap rules. In less dramatic news, 20% of the league just participated in a wildly complicated six-team trade involving 10 role players, which ultimately sent veteran Khris Middleton back to the Washington Wizards. On the court, the Las Vegas Summer League tipped off with a highly anticipated showdown between the top two draft picks, AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson.
