The 3M Open tees off in Minnesota while the MLB trade deadline looms for the Twins

Training camps are open, but the injury bug is already biting. The Carolina Panthers lost a promising young defender, Nic Scourton, to a torn ACL on the very first day of practice.

Minnesota Teams

Minnesota Twins: With the MLB trade deadline just under two weeks away, the Twins are making headlines by completely overhauling their defense. They are looking to shore up their roster and make a serious push for the playoffs. 3M Open: The PGA Tour is in our backyard this week! The 3M Open is happening right now at TPC Twin Cities, and it’s a can't-miss event because the world's top golfer, Scottie Scheffler, is headlining the field. Minnesota Vikings: NFL training camps are officially opening, which means rookies and veterans are reporting to the facility to start fighting for starting jobs and prep for the upcoming season. (Note: The Timberwolves, Wild, Lynx, and Gophers are mostly quiet today, enjoying their respective offseasons.)

NFL

Training camps are open, but the injury bug is already biting. The Carolina Panthers lost a promising young defender, Nic Scourton, to a torn ACL on the very first day of practice. In more serious injury news, Miami Dolphins superstar receiver Tyreek Hill is trying to come back from a dislocated kneecap and torn ligaments. His timeline is murky, leaving fans wondering if his season is in jeopardy. Across the league, scouts are already drooling over the 2027 NFL Draft class. NFL teams reportedly think this upcoming group of college players is loaded with "historic" talent at quarterback and edge rusher.

NBA

LeBron James' free agency is dragging out longer than expected, leaving NBA schedule-makers in a holding pattern as they wait to see which team he signs with. Over in the WNBA, the league and players' union held an important meeting to address a disturbing rise in "racist, hateful, and abusive messages" directed at players online. The league is working to protect athletes as women's basketball continues to explode in popularity. On a lighter note, the video game NBA 2K27 revealed its cover stars: basketball phenom Victor Wembanyama, WNBA rookie sensation Caitlin Clark, and veteran Derrick Rose.

MLB

The trade deadline is shaping up to be a "seller's market," meaning bad teams can get a lot of great young players in exchange for their current stars. The Cincinnati Reds are already open to trading their star pitcher, while the New York Yankees are scrambling to figure out their lineup while slugger Aaron Judge is injured. The Los Angeles Dodgers got a break from the regular season grind to visit the White House. President Donald Trump honored the team, including superstars Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman, for winning last year's World Series.

NHL

It’s the quiet part of the hockey offseason, but the Winnipeg Jets are having some fun on social media. They hilariously trolled the NBA's Miami Heat after the Heat accidentally sent out a messy press release regarding LeBron James.

College Sports

The NCAA just announced they have no plans to change their new age-based eligibility rules, despite pushback from some athletes who are taking the issue to court to try and extend their college playing days. In football, the always-entertaining coach Lane Kiffin—now leading the LSU Tigers—spoke to reporters and shared that stepping away from social media has given him a much healthier perspective on life and the game.

Other Sports

Golf: Beyond the 3M Open in Minnesota, the rival LIV Golf league is facing some internal drama. Veteran golfer Martin Kaymer said there is only a "5%" chance their 2026 season finale championship in Michigan will actually happen. MMA: UFC fighter Magomed Ankalaev admitted he made a mistake fighting Alex Pereira at UFC 320 while nursing an injury, offering a reminder to athletes everywhere that fighting through pain can sometimes cost you the match.
